We have raised almost 92% of our goal! Thank you for your continued support! Wildflower presentation fundraiser All proceeds will go to the steeple restoration project at the United Church of Northfield. This historic landmark of downtown Northfield was built in 1836 by Charles Paine, former governor of Vermont from 1841-1843. The steeple appears to be original to the building and houses the Village Clock as well as the historically significant Holbrook Bell cast in 1839. All very good reasons to maintain this symbol of our past for future generations. $42,250 has been raised to date toward the goal of $99,292. Join us for an afternoon of wildflowers and fun that is sure to usher in spring even if there is still snow on the mountains! Tickets can be purchased at the event or in advance from Judy Knapp at the S.T.A.R building at 38 Depot Square in Northfield M-F, 8 am-3 pm. For more information contact: debra.maloneyevans@gmail.com or call 485-8347.
Work Begins! Phase One... Still more to come... Southgate’s crew will be creating and reinforcing structural supports in the attic to prevent further lean of the steeple. This represents Phase One of the restoration. It should be completed over the next 2-3 weeks. Fundraising continues for Phase Two of the project. Debra Maloney-Evans, chairperson of the Save Our Steeple committee remarked, “We still have a ways to go to reach our $99,292 goal, but we are making progress. This community really understands the significance of this project. People have been very generous in their support.“ The project still needs to raise $57,000. Donations are greatly appreciated and may be sent to: UCN/SOS, P.O.Box 188, Northfield, Vermont 05663. Phase One of the steeple restoration is partially funded by a grant from the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation. Community Letter Benefit Dinner - SOS Style! A Success!
